We recently were invited by a new client to do a network audit. The client is a small legal firm in Bethesda, MD. They have 4 workstations and a server. We began the process of evaluating their network by putting our agent software on the server and on each workstation.
The audit immediately indicated some minor problems and a very serious problem. The server was over 98% full. It had less than 500mb of free space. Each workstation also had only 512mb of RAM and the workstation and server were grossly unpatched. They had major application vulnerabilities due to missing security patches .
They hesitated and a week later the server was down to 100mb of free space. So, we had to act quickly. We remotely accessed the server and we uninstalled some unecessary applications and were able to free up 1gb of space. This gave us time to purchase a new RAID Network Attached Storage (NAS) system to replace the old server.
The client now has 1TB of free space and 2gb of RAM and a secure, fast, reliable network. If we had not detected the full server in time, the client would have most certainly crashed and suffered data loss and at least three days of downtime. Instead, we made a smooth transition to a new, larger NAS device.
We continue to monitor and support them. Call 202-462-4290 if you would like a free audit of your network.![]()
